Members confirmed that eczema can indeed develop after age 50, with many sharing their own experiences of first symptoms appearing anywhere from age 50 to 68, often starting on the hands, feet, or lower legs. Several members described the severe impact on their quality of life, including relentless itching that disrupts sleep, pain from scratching, and frustration with finding effective treatments, with some trying multiple creams and ointments like Sarna lotion, CeraVe, and prescription options like Dupixent with mixed results. A recurring theme was the surprise and difficulty of managing a condition that appeared suddenly later in life, particularly when it affects daily activities like using your hands or getting restful sleep.

I started with eczema around age 62...It was on my lower legs and itched like crazy.. I have gone thru so many creams and ointments its hard to count. The strong steroid creams just burn so I stopped using them. Eczema greatly affects my sleep. I wake up at night very itchy. My go to is Sarna lotion and Cera Ve. There is no easy fix for this.
