RN With Eczema

A MyEczemaTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I am an RN who scrubs in surgery everyday. Does anyone out there do the same? What helps with your eczema outbreaks? Any tips on what you do or use for scrubbing cleansers, lotions etc before, during and after surgery? I am desperate for help. Thank you so much!!

Hey @A MyEczemaTeam Member - I am not an RN, but I do have eczema on my hands. Using SkinFix hand cream has supported me tremendously. As well as 100% cotton gloves (especially when I'm washing dishes, I put those gloves on underneath my rubber gloves). Hope this helps!

- Protective Clothing: Use heavy-duty vinyl, neoprene, or leather gloves to protect your hands.
- Hydrate and Moisturize: Regularly hydrate and moisturize your skin to prevent dryness and flare-ups.
- Hand-Washing Routine: Use lukewarm water and fragrance-free cleansers. Bring your own soap that contains lotion and always moisturize with hand cream after washing your hands.
- Medication: Keep your eczema medication with you at work to manage symptoms promptly.

Employers might not fully understand eczema, so you may need to educate them about your condition and the accommodations you need to keep your skin healthy and safe.

Take prebiotic and collagen or colostrum. Look online or Natural Grocers.

Hand eczema is worst, it cripples and limits my activity. Touching water gets painful, but I have noticed that keeping hands wet for few minutes makes symptoms go away and I am free to do activities as normal.
I read somewhere that most pain and sensation in skin is because skin cracks due to lack of moisture ending in cracks that ooze and are painful. So. Keeping skin wet where it gets crusty is very helpful.
I will be trying silicone patch next few days. I am hoping keeping skin wet and protected for a while will help my palm eczema to go away.
