Has anyone gone thru prednisone withdraw? If so what helped you. I am currently using Opzelura cream
I've had eczema all my life. I'm 70 now. I stopped using topical steroids (which I started when I was a teen) last September because I developed a course of oral prednisone damaged my eyes, and at that time, the topical steroids seemed to contribute to glaucoma. Within a month, I had eczema all over my body. It was the worse flare up I ever had. The itching was uncontrollable, and my already dry skin became drier. I tried a couple of newer creams and found that Opzelura worked best for me too. However, if you read the warnings and precautions, it sounds kind of scary to use it all over my body, and long term. I started getting UV light treatments 3 times a week in November. After about 4 to 6 weeks, I found my skin was responding well, and I could use less Opzelura. Also, under the guidance of my ophthalmologist, I restarted a little bit of topical steroid 1-2 times a week. It's now mid June, and my skin has been much better since around February. However, it's still much drier than before, and I have to use moisturizer all over twice a day, and several times a day on my face. I believe all of this was caused by topical steroid withdrawal. I hope this info helps you.
I started my journey with prednisone in 2015 when I touched poison ivy and what a big mistake. My skin erupted and never healed. After multiple blood tests, allergy test and patch testing years later I found the healthy skin show and Jennifer fugo talked about topical steroid withdrawal or TSW. Through my own journey I realized the eczema was exasperated because I was taking topical steroids and had been in courses of prednisone. The final straw was last year. They had me in 40 mg for 9 days and when the dermatologist told me to just finish them before I start the taper I knew I was in trouble. She acted like it was candy. My primary care helped me to taper going to 30 mg and then 20 and 10 and 5. No looking back. I know that steroids are the answer for a lot of things but I found a study that said $78,000 people have died from steroid use specifically prednisone. I touched poison ivy again and it was on my face and five doctors tried to convince me to use steroids and prednisone after I told them like patch test came back positive for cortisone and I can't take it. One recommended that I use triamcinolone which is the second strongest topical steroid next to clebetazole as far as I have researched. And should never be used on your face and he told me it wasn't a steroid. Please do your own research and best of luck on your health journey
I went to an allergist and had skin test. Allergic to glue and yellow gold.
Now only wear socks and sneakers. I'm better but it's still on my feet.she advised dupixant but copay is $1000 a shot 2x a week!
Oral prednisone. Tapered off it and felt really bad. Don't want to take it again but starting to break out. Also had cortisone shot in April and that helps but I think it's been wearing off. Never had excema till 2021 and really tired of it. Had 2 biopsies and skin is atopic and head contact. Dermatologist couldn't believe the head diagnosis. Thinking of going to an allergist.
I hesitate to use the prescription Jax meds for excema as I noticed 1 or more can cause blood clots. I have had 2 Pulmonary embolisms.
