Members shared creative strategies for managing eczema in the heat, with staying indoors in air conditioning being the most common approach, though several noted the importance of using a humidifier to counter the drying effects of A/C on skin. Many community members described their moisturizing routines, including refrigerating creams and lotions for instant relief, using natural remedies like comfrey salve and emu oil, applying antifungal powder in sweat-prone areas, and trying products like Dr. Harlan Smart Lotion which some found transformative. A recurring theme was adapting daily habits to avoid triggers, such as exercising indoors, walking only in early morning coolness, wearing loose 100% cotton or UPF clothing, staying hydrated, wiping off sweat immediately before it dries, and keeping the skin constantly moisturized throughout the day.

I keep my creams, lotions & scripts refrigerated.. it really gives my skin some instant relief. It makes such a difference that I bought a mini refrigerator for the bathroom (holds 6 cans) I also plug it into my cigarette lighter in my vehicle & when I go swimming (half hour from home) I plug it outdoors & as soon as I get out of the pool & heat.. I can put something cool on my skin asap.. same when I get out of the bath or shower. I even keep my sunscreen in the refrigerator.

I use Almipro Syndet no soap body wash in a cool shower. Then I apply Avon Oatmeal lotion with copious amounts of glycerine that keeps my skin hydrated. I finish with an antifungal powder in the places that will sweat & irritate me the most. I also try to wear loose-fitting 100% cotton clothing. And since my A/C can freeze a person solid, I only use my tower fans & my humidifier & only go out if I must. I'm a fall/winter girl, so I try different methods to tone down my flare-ups in this heat.

That sounds wonderful to keep my creams refrigerated. I am going to have to try that.

Stay out of the sun. Moisturize.

I am an early bird which works well for my eczema. If the temp is below 80 degrees and there is a slight breeze I can take a nice morning walk sometimes before dawn. I see a lot of very athletic, lightly dressed runners at that time. I have always worn cotton for its comfort but now I need the lightest weight I can find. I like Indian cotton. They know about heat! If the weather is bad, or I can’t sleep I do indoor exercises in my home. It takes my mind off the itch and aids my mental health because I feel that I have control of something, if not my itching. My pet peave is “all cotton” ads but the cotton is heavy weight or has scratchy stitching. I waste a lot of money trying those.
