Have fish oil capsules helped with eczema symptoms?

Some people have found fish oil helpful for eczema. Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce inflammation associated with eczema. One study showed improved eczema symptoms after 12 weeks of taking fish oil.

However, results vary. Another study on infants at high risk for eczema found no difference in eczema prevalence with fish oil supplementation. What are the potential side effects?

Fish oil can cause some side effects, including:

- Diarrhea or nausea
- Slowed blood clotting when combined with aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications
- Interactions with blood pressure medications and birth control
- In rare cases, increased stroke risk in people with heart disease history

It's important to talk with your dermatologist before starting fish oil capsules, especially if you're taking other medications. They can advise on appropriate dosing and monitor for any interactions or side effects specific to your situation.
