Genital eczema can be really uncomfortable, but there are several things that may help bring some relief. Here's a summary of tips that have worked for others:

Clothing & Hygiene
- Wear loose, breathable underwear made from cotton or bamboo
- Avoid tight clothing that causes friction
- Wash clothes with fragrance-free detergent and rinse thoroughly
- Clean the area with warm water and a gentle, non-detergent cleanser
- Avoid overwashing, as this can make things worse

Skincare Products
- Use fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products labeled "for sensitive skin"
- Apply moisturizers/emollients regularly to soothe dry, itchy skin
- Store anti-itch emollients in the fridge for cooling relief
- Avoid soaps, hygiene wipes, and talcum powder on the affected area Topical Treatments
- Mild corticosteroid creams can reduce inflammation, but strong steroids should be avoided in the genital area as they can thin the skin
- Non-steroid options like tacrolimus, pimecrolimus, or crisaborole are often recommended for this sensitive area
- If using both a steroid cream and a moisturizer, apply them at least 30 minutes apart

Other Tips
- Avoid latex contraceptives if they seem to trigger irritation — speak to a doctor about alternatives
- If scratching has caused open sores, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection
- Narrow band UVB phototherapy has shown some promise for genital eczema

A MyEczemaTeam member shared that moisturizing regularly helped them break the itch-scratch cycle, which is especially important in sensitive areas.

Always check in with a dermatologist before starting any new treatment, as the genital skin is particularly sensitive and absorbs products more easily than other areas.
