Overview
Adquey is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the topical treatment of adults and children 2 and up with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (the most common type of eczema). It is used on affected areas of the skin to help reduce symptoms such as rash, itching, and inflammation. Adquey is also known by its drug name, difamilast.

Adquey is a phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor. Scientists believe it works by blocking the PDE4 enzyme, which increases levels of a signaling molecule called cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and helps reduce the production of inflammatory substances that contribute to eczema symptoms.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Adquey is applied to the skin as a topical ointment. It should be applied in a thin layer to the affected areas twice daily and rub it in completely. The medication is for topical use only and should not be used in the eyes, mouth, or vagina. Adquey should be used exactly as prescribed by a healthcare provider.

Side effects
Common side effects of Adquey include nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nose and throat, often called the common cold).
