Overview
Cyclocort is a prescription drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat skin inflammation and itching associated with skin conditions that respond to corticosteroids. Cyclocort is also known by its drug name, amcinonide.

Cyclocort is a member of a class of drugs called corticosteroids. Cyclocort is believed to work by stopping the formation of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, irritation, and itching.

How do I take it?
Cyclocort is available as an ointment, lotion, and cream. Prescribing information states that Cyclocort should be applied to affected areas of the skin two or three times daily. It should be used exactly as prescribed by a physician.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Cyclocort lists common side effects that include irritation, thinning skin, burning, dryness, itching, allergic reactions, and excessive hair growth.

Serious side effects listed for Cyclocort include high blood glucose levels and a condition of elevated cortisol levels in the body known as Cushing’s syndrome.
