Derma-Smoothe/FS is a prescription drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat scalp psoriasis in adults. Derma-Smoothe/FS may be prescribed off-label to treat eczema. Derma-Smoothe/FS is also known by its drug name, Fluocinolone.

Derma-Smoothe/FS is a corticosteroid of low to mid-range potency. It is believed that Derma-Smoothe/FS works by suppressing immune system activity.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Derma-Smoothe/FS is applied at least four hours before shampooing hair.

Derma-Smoothe/FS comes in the form of scalp oil.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Derma-Smoothe/FS lists side effects including burning, itching, and dryness. Topical corticosteroids can also cause skin atrophy (thinning and wrinkling of skin and/or visible depressions), allergic contact dermatitis, secondary infection, stretch marks, and thickening of the skin.

Rare but serious side effects listed for corticosteroids include high blood sugar and reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression (a dysfunction of the adrenal system).
