Itching is horrible. Scale returns on a daily basis. Worst parts on scalp are right behind my ears, above my ears, on my ears, in my ears, and on my neck at the base of my scalp. Sometimes little bits flake off. More often I have large pieces of scale that I pull off. It’s thick and sometimes the size of my finger pad. They reappear in 1-2 days, so there is always the itch and the scratching.
I just saw my dermatologist about this, he said to use selsun blue shampoo and put some of the bubbles in the ears. He said most people use head & shoulders but selsun blue works better. So far I've had good results with it.
I hope that you find something that gives you some relief.
Mine was like that and got a shot of cortisone and put on prednisone. Cortisone shot cleared it right up. Had a biopsy and doc was sure it was an infection but came back contact dermatitis. Don't pick the scales off as that is what I did and my head was weeping and itching like crazy. See if a cortisone shot will help you and then if it comes back again as mine did. Don't pick at it and try a free and clear shampoo and I also bought a shower filter. I use Kristen Ess clear clarifying shampoo and triamcinolone cream on my head now and it's lumpy but not weeping or itching.
I don't have noticeable scaling but do have itching around edges and into scalp.I use Aveeno Oat Milk Blend shampoo and in between Skin Smart antimicobial Eczema Therapy. You don't rinse it out. Someone on this site mentioned a doctor recommended Nizoral Anti Dandruff Shampoo. It is a little different then some of the other dandroff shampoos they said. Also I have used the Skin Smart around ears some in but not deep.
Also tryManuks Honey Eczema cream by O’Neal . Not greasy.
Test your skin for tea tree oil. If you have no reaction try to find a product with it in it. It helps to heal and will help the itch.
