What can help relieve painful, crusted eczema on the eyelids?

That sounds incredibly uncomfortable, and it's important to address this right away, especially since you're having trouble opening your eyes. The crusting and pain could indicate an infection, which needs prompt medical attention.

Immediate steps you can take:

* Press a warm or cool washcloth over your eyelids to help soothe the area and loosen crusting
* Apply a gentle moisturizer after using the compress
* Keep your hands clean and avoid touching or scratching your eyes
* Contact your doctor or dermatologist immediately about the severity of your symptoms

The skin around your eyes is particularly thin and sensitive, making eyelid eczema harder to treat. The crusting and difficulty opening your eyes suggests you may need prescription treatment rather than just home remedies.

Your doctor might prescribe:

* Antibiotic eye drops if there's an infection present
* Short-term prescription topical steroids
* Topical calcineurin inhibitors to reduce inflammation

Don't wait for this to resolve on its own - eye infections and severe eyelid eczema can affect your vision if left untreated. A healthcare provider can properly assess whether you have a secondary infection and provide appropriate treatment to get you relief quickly.
