I’ve had hay fever and allergies all my life. Eczema on hand, legs and arms every spring and summer. Last year was the worst. My scalp started itching badly in June.

Called the dermatologist for appointment and was give Dec appt, probably because of the Covid pandemic. My scalp became inflamed, sore and was covered with breakouts and sores. I was at my wits end with depression waiting for my appointment. On top of this my hair was falling out from the inflammation. I lost 50% of my hair from the front to the middle of the back of my scalp. I also had eczema on my chest and back which was new in addition to my thighs, hands and arms. I had to resort to wearing a wig which was new to me and I didn’t like.

Finally my appointment time came and I met the dermatologist and the pa of my dreams. They put me on the prednisone tap for eight days for the inflammation. I was given a script for a huge tub of trimeclone to apply to the body. Skin started to feel a little better.

After the prednisone, the dr began giving me Dupixent shots at her office. My skin quickly started to heal. The sores on my scalp began to heal.

The next hurdle with Dupixent began. The cost was 3400.00 per month for two injections. I’m a retired teacher in Michigan and my insurance would pay 2000.00 per month. Well, 1400.00 a month was too much for me. My pa suggested trying the Dupixent My Way Program which we did. Both myself and the dermatologist had to jump through so many hoops of submitting and resubmitting photos and reports. Finally after about 6-7 weeks of this and worrying, I was finally approved for the program with zero costs to me. It comes to my home once a month. My skin is clear, my scalp sores have cleared and the plaques are disappearing. My hair is beginning to grow back. No itching at all.

I know this was a long post, but I want other to know about this medication and how it saved me. Having to give myself an injection twice a month has been so much better than suffering through my allergies! Good luck to all!

Hello, I had severe scalp eczema and a member suggested I try extra virgen coconut oil. So I applied liberal amounts nightly for a little over a week and it cleared up and it hasn’t returned. It’s going on seven months with no scalp eczema! It’s worth a try.

I have contact dermatitis on my scalp and it's horrible. Scaley and flaky. I am 83 and have never had skin issues in my life. I had a biopsy and the result was contact dermatitis which my Dermatologist does not understand as I only use shampoo and nothing else on my hair. If I use Nizerol, my head weeps and so clear shampoo and steroid is all I use. I can't get my hair cut as the rash is significant. Have med caused dermatitis on my body according to that biopsy. I am going to try an allergist as I have no idea exactly what the cause of this is and neither does my Dermatologist. He has tried to figure it out with the biopsies. Something changed in my immune system as I never had issues before. I just had a flair and only prednisone seems to help but can't stay on it. Can't take JAK meds as they can cause blood clots and had 2 Pulmonary embolisms several years ago. Very frustrated and upset with this issue. My head is the worst because I can't get haircut and it itches like a 1000 fleas.

Woke up last January itching like crazy all over my body including scalp and just believed it to be very dry skin. After two months of purchasing every over-the-counter product including those specially made for eczema, went to my first dermatologist who gave me a very weak cream and told me to get off of gabapentin. No luck. Waited for another dermatologist who kept up with the latest meds and she definitely thought I had eczema, gave me 2 new meds, one specifically for my scalp and other for all other body parts. It would help for a day and then back to the scratching although not as severe. Second follow-up to derm, she did a biopsy (just a small scraping) and yes, proved the eczema to be accurate.
As I have only 1/2 a stomach (surgery from 30 years ago), I have serious malabsorption and am anemic, so taking pills is useless. We discussed Dupixent and I've started the injectables. She explained and knew all my issues and reassured me that my issues would not be detrimental to the drug. It takes 2 weeks for it to kick in and each week it is better, but a full recovery will never be possible. It's one of those things that happens to the body and medical research knows little about the individual causes; lots of generic reasons only. And it does move to different parts of the body without reason.
Cost: Yep it is expensive. And of course, as we get older many of us have less disposable income BUT... If you are on Medicare there is a PPO program with AETNA available. Then Dupixent pays for ALL my deductible up to $13,000 a year which comes thru Dupixent My Way. The reason as above that is necessary to "jump thru hoops" is to show that it is really needed. With my insurance PPO I had approval in two weeks and was mailed the injectables immediately. I would talk to an insurance agent about possible programs.
BTW my husband is a manager of a dermatology clinic.....
