While bleach baths can help manage eczema symptoms by reducing bacteria and inflammation on the skin, creating a soap with bleach would not be safe or effective. Bleach baths work because they are extremely diluted in a full tub of water and are only used for short periods (5-10 minutes).
The proper dilution for a bleach bath is very specific: 1/2 cup regular strength bleach (6%) for a full tub, or 1/4 cup for a half-full tub. This careful dilution is what makes it safe for skin use. A bar of soap containing bleach would be too concentrated and could be dangerous to use directly on the skin. Additionally, research shows that bleach baths may not be more effective than plain water baths for some people. It's important to always consult with a dermatologist before trying any bleach-based treatments for eczema.
